Nurses Run is Saturday

The third annual 5K Challenge Nurses Run-Walk-Roll hosted by the nurses of Beaver Dam Community Hospitals Inc. is May 14. All are invited to join this celebration in honor of the BDCH nurses during National Nurses Week and help raise funds for health care education.

The nurses of BDCH are committed to the future of health care in our communities and have organized the run-walk-roll to promote wellness and raise funds for the BDCH Foundation Inc. Looking forward to the needs of the future, the foundation funds scholarships and programs aimed at attracting qualified people to careers in health care.

By sponsoring this fun, early-spring activity, BDCH nurses hope to support the local community and encourage others to choose nursing as a career.

The run, held rain or shine, will begin at 8 a.m. near the front entrance of the hospital on University Avenue. After meandering through the nearby residential area, the 5-kilometer course loops back to the finish line at the front of the hospital near the pond, where participants can enjoy the park-like grounds and complimentary refreshments.

Everyone is welcome to participate, regardless of age or physical condition. Strollers and wheelchairs will be allowed, but bikes, roller blades, skate boards and pets are prohibited.

The cost to enter the run-walk-roll is $20 for adult pre-registration (received by May 1) or $15 for children under age 15. The cost to register the day of the event will be $25, with registration beginning at 7 a.m. The fee guarantees participants a T-shirt specially-designed for the 2011 race. T-shirts for day-of-race registrants will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Any participant who does not receive a shirt on the day of the race will be mailed one within three weeks.

Awards will be given to the top three overall male and female finishers, the first nurse to finish, the youngest participant (riding doesn’t count), and the “wisest” participant (the one who has been on this earth the longest).
